Michael VIII Palaeologus, 1261-1282. Trachy (Bronze, 26 mm, 2.77 g, 6 h), Thessalonica. Archangel St. Michael standing facing, nimbate, holding spear in his right hand. Rev. Half-length figures of Michael VIII on the left, wearing crown and loros and holding cruciform scepter in his right hand, and St. Demetrius on the right, nimbate, in military attire and holding spear in his left hand; both holding between them cross in circle on staff. DOC 147-50. SB 2297. Attractive green patina. Minor marks, otherwise, very fine.
